Americal Eclectic is honored to present “Tripod Bird,” a towering masterpiece of California Assemblage by the late Ron Pippin. Standing five feet tall on a dramatic 50-inch wide tripod base, this work is a quintessential example of Pippin’s “visual prayers.” The sculpture reimagines the avian form as a celestial instrument, merging the delicate hand-stitched leather and bone of the natural world with the rigid, industrial geometry of a heavy tripod.
Pippin’s work—residing in the permanent collection of the Hirshhorn Museum—is famed for creating “relics that never were.” In “Tripod Bird,” he captures the intersection of 19th-century naturalist exploration and 20th-century industrial myth. This is a rare, museum-scale installation piece that commands any space it inhabits, inviting the viewer into a post-apocalyptic laboratory of the imagination.
