Americal Eclectic is proud to feature this significant 33-inch vessel from the celebrated “Armada” series by California master Ron Pippin. This work represents Pippin’s unique ability to transform the maritime past into a “biomechanical” future. Utilizing his signature “visual prayers,” Pippin has deconstructed a classic ship of the line, rebuilding its hull in hand-stitched leather and encasing its rigging in layers of aged wax and twine.
The result is a sculpture that feels like a “soul-ship”—a vessel meant for a spiritual journey rather than a military one. As a Hirshhorn-collected artist, Pippin’s ships are his most sought-after works, merging the craftsmanship of a 19th-century model maker with the conceptual depth of a contemporary master.
